a white christmas

Reno hasn't had a white Christmas in a while but we got one this year! Today we took the sleds to the park for Grant's first downhill outing. It was surprisingly chilly!

More pictures are also now up on our shutterfly account - sorry it took so long!

merry christmas

We've sent out the Christmas cards but our update letter is here...

Some highlighted news of 2008 include:

In February we moved into our first house! It's a brand new one story in Lemmon Valley (north Reno). Our street has a lot of young families on it and it's level - a luxury we didn't have our first two years of marriage. Grant's best friend Brian lives at the end of the street and they do lots of things together every week.

Abby now works part time for our church (yeah in addition to her design jobs) and enjoys being more involved in the ministry of Coram Deo. She heads up the design, welcoming team, and other odds and ends of making the church community grow and thrive. Tim is still in the band and has begun leading worship once a month which keeps him on his toes. We love the family we have there!

Mavora Art and Design (our little photography business that is now Abby's design business) has been growing steadily. We finally got a business license and made it official! So we are small business owners and Abby is frequently working hard over wedding invitations, stationery, and other custom cards. If you want to see her work you can go to and her etsy stores - mavora for brides mainly and mavoracards for the everyday stuff.

We were able to vacation in Yosemite this year which has been a goal since we moved to Reno. We spent our third anniversary there, did some slab climbing, and froze every night. We were able to share the experience with Abby's parents, brother's family, and some friends too which was an extra bonus for sure!

Grant is now 2 and he definitely qualifies as a highlight. You can browse the blog and see more of him; for instance - here, here, and here. We're planning on getting Grant a little sister through an international adoption but it's still VERY much in the God willing stage because we don't really know what we're doing.

And so overall life is good, God is good, and we hope you are doing well also. We wish you could all be our next door out-of-towners we really do miss sometimes! Thanks for making our life better every time you step into it!

Merry Christmas,
Tim, Abby, and Grant

good for laughs

Grant is FUNNY!

He finds wonderful times to say "What the HECK" and he does it all long and drawn out. It's hilarious and we can't stop laughing so we're not helping him break the habit.

He also says - Fick ix = "fix it"

He loves Wall-E, Eve, and don't forget Mo.

And he's CONSTANTLY asking "you okay?".... you okay dinosaur? okay daddy? okay bed?

The other day Tim went in Grant's room and he was saying "paintin wall?". He pretends to paint a lot these days after watching Daddy do it. Tim figured it was nothing. Later that day however we found one of our paint brushes we let him play with covered in Desitin and lying between his car bed frame and mattress. He had shoved it in the hole and sure enough there was Desitin painted on the wall near by. Now when we leave the room we say "don't play with anything wet in here". I figure that should cover our bases.

Sorry guys but I've been WAY to busy! Mavora has been doing well though so that's good even though it makes things harder too. This week Tim has been painting the living room while I work at nights. I'll send a picture when we have it finished. Decorating is slow around here. I was hoping this picture I made Tim would inspire him...and I think it did. It's a 20 by 28 poster hanging in the living room now. I've always liked the moment this picture captured at our reception but it never had great lighting. I got this idea from an artist on Etsy but I couldn't afford to have him do I did. I gave it to Tim 4 years after we met. He brought me home chinese food and we ate it out of the box. I always wanted to do that....silly I know.

laughter, trouble, and a turtle

Grant is in his car bed now - thanks to his cousins sharing.
Does every 2 year old boy stick his legs straight up in the air when getting tucked in? And he leaves them up there too, it's not like a ploy to stop bed time, he likes it like that. We are still working on the STAY part of bedtime but we're getting there.

This is after I left Grant alone for 45 seconds with a marker

This is just him being cute - he would only smile if I got in the picture with him.

And this is our little turtle last night for Halloween!
He still tried to go into all the houses like last year but he at least would say,
"wanna treat!"
The kitty is our neighbor friend.

These two (cousin Macy) are totally crazy together.
And that's what's going on around here!

will photo for food

I'm sorry I haven't put up a new title in a while I just loved the last one so much. This one is a sneak peak of the our fall photo shoot - pictures to be unveiled on our Christmas card! It was just the family and a tripod but we got a few surprisingly great shots. So now I am announcing to our Reno friends that we're opening Mavora up for family photo shoots this fall. Construction has been slow for Tim and we need some extra cash flow and babysitting so we're open to both forms of payment. I can't wait to show you our shots!

last ride

This past Saturday I went on a bike ride at Tahoe with my friend Lane. We overestimated our endurance a little, I think, but.... let's just say we really enjoyed the first eleven miles. And the view from above Sand Harbor.

The last eleven miles were a bit more challenging, but we survived.

This being the second half of October, it was probably my last ride of the season. As I remarked to Lane, it was a good last ride and left me well prepared for winter - I will probably remember the pain until spring.

Grant thinks the alphabet starts:

.....A ..... Chicken ......

serious spaghetti

Our church has been cooking and serving spaghetti at the men's shelter now for several months once a month. Well our roommate Crystal does all the work for our family with the cooking and the driving down there to serve but I feel like we're helping since we donate our kitchen....but this last time I felt I could do more! I figured I could help Crystal and we could whip up double the spaghetti which was needed as they were short on cooks. Okay. One pan of the spaghetti they serve is a LOT and two is INSANE! We really didn't have the pots for it so many things were switching from one pot to another, to a third. Especially the spaghetti which I never realized grew so much. I just wanted to attach a picture of most of the food - of course there's WAY more spaghetti in the kitchen.....all over the kitchen.... I need more pots captain!

the ring bearer

This weekend Grant had the honor of being the ring bearer at his friends' wedding. His job was to carry a bucket down the aisle and pick up four shells. We practiced for two days and he really did try, but alas as expected it didn't go smoothly. He actually got so excited he could barely be held back. I was at the end of the aisle with a bag of promised shark fruit snacks. They let him go and at first he shuffled shyly but then suddenly he exploded into a sprint down the aisle toward the shells. I thought he might make it happen, but his run turned quickly into a spread eagle fall smack dab in the center and an explosion of 14 shells out of his little bucket followed. But still the little guy got up undaunted, squatted and began to pick up shells. The problem was he was going to take all day, so off I went to grab a few and walk him down the rest of the aisle all the while with Grant saying quite loudly, "sharks!" "sharks!". But we made it out without tears so I'm still calling it a success.

Oh and Grant dj-ed for a bit too - that actually went better than the ring bearing.

new pictures

Tim and I got to go to the lake on Saturday to kayak and take pictures around sunset. At first I was dragging my feet but it ended up to be so much fun! It's been a while since I've had some real uninterrupted photography time.

I also added some pictures to our shutterfly page - did you guys know they changed it? It's like a hip blog page now. You can make it look really cool but I won't be. All coolness that I have will come here.

ant bee

Well I guess it was a few weeks ago now but Tim's sisters Aunt Bethany (ant bee) and Aunt Faith came to visit us. I'm adding some pictures. And I can't tell the story well because I wasn't there but wanted to mention that Ant Bee gave Grant a bath with his clothes on. He wanted them on apparently and won. Thanks for coming out guys!

(we're saying "look at the camera Grant!")

And on a side note, my favorite gray shirt pictured above just bit the big one. I'm quite upset. I got olive oil on it and upon removing most of that stain it must have found some bleach residue in the sink where the night before I had placed my hair foils (Tim highlights my hair) and red spots ensued. Perfect!

We made it out and we made it back. A week in Yosemite. It had its awesome views and its cold nights, its great climbing and its winding roads. The place was so packed with wildlife that in the first 3 minutes of driving in the park we actually HIT a bird. Here's Grant later chasing deer.

On the way home we stopped by Bodie - the preserved ghost town. It almost killed us but it made sense that we went if you know us. We often try the "long-shot" for pictures or for fun. It probably would have paid off if we didn't have a teething, runny nose, cramped, and tired 2 year old in the back seat. At least the sky was great.

We really enjoyed vacationing with friends and family. There were 4 two year olds total in the week which was challenging at times but mainly just really cute. And we could take turns climbing and babysitting.

Fabulous pictures are still yet to be seen, we're still sorting and fine tuning. We decided not to kill ourselves trying to hunt the big shots. Maybe next time we'll do the sunrise thing but sometimes you gotta really take a vacation. I can't believe I was away from the computer for a whole week! The only way I could is to drop me off in the middle of no where....done.

But praise the Lord I'm home and I don't have to keep all my food locked up away from "bears" every second.

I printed on a ream of paper today - half double sided. Some people may be having weddings that are just a little too big.

I'm glad we leave for vacation in two days.

summer fun

Here's some pictures of our summer adventures so far - they've been pretty low key but we've been climbing a few times and we made it to the Zoo near our house (I can't say it was good but I can say we made it). I can't believe summer is flying by so fast but I also can't wait until September and even October, that's really the best time for outdoor activity around here. We need all those tourists to leave Tahoe alone.

the new peppermill wing

For those of you in Reno I just wanted to say Tim and I went through the new Peppermill wing. It's AWESOME. I'm hoping they open the pool to everyone - it seems like the new thing at some of the casinos. But anyway, we went to Biscotti's dessert bar. Holy Cow! I had the lime cheesecake and Tim had the carrot cake. They were amazing (though not cheap). I'm recommending you all check it out. mmmmmmmmm

For better or for worse Grant is now the big two. Tim and I have been so busy these last few weeks but we managed to have a small party with family at Chuck E Cheese. Here's some pictures of the party and general life plus an extra video of Grant laughing with me a few weeks ago. Wish you all could enjoy him in person but not everyone can be so lucky.

You will hear me say "bi" and Grant says it too in the middle - That's his word for his blanket....I don't know why...

Grant can now request breakfast. This morning his first words were, "cookies, cake, fries?" And it was a sentence just like that.

His other favorite sentences include:

"mow, mow, puppy"
"okay okay okay potty cookie?"
"mow, mow, mow, mow mow?"

The last one is requesting that I put in Aristocats.

new-ish look

I was doing some work for another blog and some etsy stores online and I figured I should probably pay a little more attention to my own...the design business has really been cookin' over here but it's cool. For the most part I love it and I always appreciate extra money in the budget...or filling in the deficits. Hope you like the new-ish look!

all inclusive

When I started rock climbing some of it's draw was the fact that not everyone knew how to do it. It's technical and a bit risky - it was almost like I was in an exclusive club. Now, quite a few years later I realized my views on climbing have changed. The way I climb is very inclusive. I take out new friends, old friends, whoever really. I've taught a lot of people how to climb and belay now. I even took my mother!! Way to go mom! She and Susan did a fabulous job a few weeks ago. She made it to the top of a few climbs and learned to belay! The last picture is my new belay buddy Lauren from Coram Deo. She's the hard core manicurist! We go once a week and invite others too. It's great to have an excuse to get out of the house, be with other gals, exercise, and get better at climbing. I finished a 5.11 last night. Oh yeah.
